CS2 Trade Protection in 2026: The 7-Day Rule Explained
Understand Steam's CS2 Trade Protection: what happens after a confirmed trade, what you can and cannot do for seven days, and how reversals work.

The short answer
Steam says CS2 items received in a confirmed trade are immediately delivered, but are Trade Protected for seven days. During that period, the received CS2 items cannot be consumed, modified, transferred, or moved into a Storage Unit. The protection exists so an account owner can reverse recent CS2 trades if they lose control of the account.
This guide summarizes Steam's current policy, not a promise about any individual transaction. Read the full Steam Trade Protected Items FAQ before trading.
What happens after a CS2 trade?
- You confirm a trade in Steam.
- The CS2 item arrives and can be used in-game.
- For the next seven days, Steam marks it Trade Protected.
- During that period, it cannot be transferred, consumed, modified, or placed in a Storage Unit.
- Once the seven days pass, the Trade Protected status ends.
Steam states that CS2 is currently the game using this feature. It also notes that CS2 items are not subject to traditional trade holds or trade escrow because they use Trade Protection instead.
What a trade reversal means
If you believe your account was compromised, Steam lets you review eligible protected trades from Trade History. A reversal affects all eligible CS2 trades from the previous seven days—not only one item. Steam says the account that initiates the reversal receives a 30-day trading and Community Market cooldown; trade partners are not given that cooldown.
That makes reversal a security-recovery tool, not a way to undo buyer's remorse or price movement.
A safe trade checklist
- Use Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator and keep recovery codes private.
- Type the official site address yourself; do not sign in through “free skin” links from messages, comments, or overlays.
- Check the counterparty, items, and trade screen before confirming.
- Never disclose your password, one-time Steam Guard code, or recovery code.
- If something looks wrong, stop. Regain control of your Steam account before taking any action.
Steam's Mobile Authenticator guidance explains its account-protection role and recovery considerations.
How this affects SkinTasks withdrawals
SkinTasks does not request a Steam password. A valid withdrawal still requires you to review the trade offer in Steam and follow Steam's own account and inventory rules. If you receive a CS2 item through a confirmed trade, plan around the seven-day protected period before expecting to transfer, alter, or place it into Storage.
Browse current CS2 rewards only after earning coins through available tasks. Inventory, task eligibility, verification, and withdrawal conditions vary.
FAQ
Can I use a Trade Protected CS2 skin right away?
Steam says it is delivered immediately and can be equipped and used in-game. Restrictions apply to transferring, consuming, modifying, and Storage Units during the protected period.
Can I reverse one trade only?
Steam's FAQ says reversing trades returns all trades containing protected items from the prior seven days. Check Steam's current instructions before starting one.
Does Trade Protection make phishing harmless?
No. It is a recovery feature, not a substitute for good account security. Protect your sign-in and recovery information.
